Inspired by traditional Japanese cooking, the Convivio Alessi Otoshibuta Wooden Cooking Lid is the ideal accessory for slow, gentle and even cooking. Unlike conventional glass or stainless steel lids, the Otoshibuta is an inner lid that sits directly on the food, helping to keep it submerged and cook it more gently and in a more controlled way.

It's an ideal lid for stews, pulses, fish or delicate foods. The lid is made in Italy from cypress wood. Beautiful, elegant and highly functional: you'll see how this simple approach gives you more carefully cooked results.

How to use the Otoshibuta wooden lid

Simply place it inside the pot directly on top of the ingredients while they cook. The lid helps keep them under the liquid and reduces the movement of the liquid as it boils. This allows heat, juices and flavours to spread more evenly and better preserves the shape and texture of the food.

This lid is especially useful for slow-cooking foods with a delicate texture that you want to keep whole.

The history of Alessi

Alessi is an Italian brand with more than 100 years of history that has managed to transform everyday objects into true design pieces. Founded in 1921 in Omegna, in northern Italy, it combines craftsmanship, innovation, and creativity in each of its creations.

Throughout its history, it has collaborated with some of the world’s most influential designers, resulting in iconic pieces such as the Juicy Salif juicer and Michael Graves’s kettle, featured in museums such as New York’s MoMA.

Known as a “dream factory,” Alessi creates objects that go beyond function: pieces that bring character, emotion, and a unique way of understanding design in the kitchen and home.
